SOLIS — "the sun" — is one of two private villas at MONS GORA, on the forested hillside of Gora in Hakone, ninety minutes from Tokyo. Upstairs, a vaulted timber-roofed living room opens onto a wide deck: a corner sofa before a Scan Therm wood-burning stove, a Japanese lacquered bar counter, and music played through a Luxman tube amplifier and JBL classic speakers. Beside it sits a private hinoki bath fed by the free-flowing, milky-white hot spring water of Owakudani. SOLIS alone adds a private sauna with an outdoor cold plunge. Downstairs, an open kitchen and an eight-seat oak table gather the group; three bedrooms — an extra-wide super-king suite, a twin room and a Japanese tatami room with Airweave futons — sleep up to eight across roughly 350 m² of indoor and outdoor living. A butler, a visiting chef, in-villa spa treatments and private transfers from Tokyo can all be arranged. LUNA, its sister villa, stands six metres away for larger parties.
