LUNA — "the moon" — is the quieter of the two private villas at MONS GORA, on the forested hillside of Gora in Hakone, ninety minutes from Tokyo. Its deck holds an outdoor onsen foot bath above the lawn; inside, a private hinoki bath on the upper floor runs with the free-flowing, milky-white hot spring water of Owakudani. The vaulted timber living room gathers around a Scan Therm wood-burning stove, a Japanese lacquered bar counter and a Luxman tube amplifier with JBL classic speakers, with a small den alongside. Downstairs, an open kitchen and an eight-seat oak table sit beside three bedrooms — an extra-wide super-king suite, a twin room and a Japanese tatami room with Airweave futons — for up to eight guests across roughly 350 m² of indoor and outdoor living. A butler, a visiting chef, in-villa spa treatments and private transfers from Tokyo can all be arranged. SOLIS, its sister villa with a private sauna, stands six metres away.
